Ricardo Perez and Carlos Gomez take top two spots in each race Chris Ruud and Robert Herjavec exchange victories in Coppa Shell category 28 examples of the Ferrari 458 Challenge Evoluzione race just before Canadian Grand Prix June 9, 2014 (Englewood Cliffs, N.J.) – On the circuit named for former Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 driver Gilles Villeneuve, the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli set the stage for an exciting Canadian Grand Prix with two exciting races of its own. The round at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, set on the Ile Notre-Dame in Montreal, Quebec, saw a strong field of 28 examples of the Ferrari 458 Challenge Evoluzione take part in the weekend’s races.
The first race, held on Saturday afternoon, saw polesitter Damon Ockey (Ferrari of Ontario) lead the field to the green flag ahead of John Farano and Ricardo Perez. However, An incident on the sixth lap of the race dropped Ockey down the order, allowing Perez to take command of the race ahead of Carlos Gomez and Emmanuel Anassis.
Perez would take the victory ahead of Gomez, who set the fastest lap of the race, while Anassis held of a hard-charging Farano for the final spot on the podium.
In the Coppa Shell category, Chris Ruud scored victory ahead of James Weiland. Robert Herjavec (Ferrari of Ontario) executed a late-race pass on Jon Becker for the final spot on the Coppa Shell podium.
In the second race of the weekend, held just before the start of Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix, Perez led from the start and withstood heavy pressure from Gomez to sweep the weekend,and claim his fourth win of the season. Ockey finished in third, just beating Marc Muzzo (Ferrari of Ontario) to the line. Gomez would again set the fastest lap of the race. In the Coppa Shell division, Herjavec scored his first victory of the year . Early leader Ruud lost his lead after contact, but recovered to finish in third position. Finishing in second position was Becker.
The next round of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli will be on June 27-29, at Circuit Mont Tremblant in Mont Tremblant, Quebec.
