WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (3 Sept., 2018) – After fighting for positions all the way to the finish line, Ferrari factory driver Toni Vilander clinched the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge combined GT championship with a run to fourth place at Watkins Glen International on Saturday.Vilander had to race his way forward with the No. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari of Ontario, Toronto and Alberta/Zekelman Industries Ferrari 488 GT3 to lock in the points needed to secure the championship on Saturday. After running sixth for the opening 25-minutes, Vilander  gained a pair of positions when a pair of competitors pitted.  Vilander then moved to fourth position with just three minutes remaining in the race, and pushed his pursuit for third the the final moments of the event, coming up just 0.360 seconds short at the checkered flag to finish fourth.Entering the race with a 29-point lead in the GT Sprint and GT SprintX combined standings, the result gave Vilander the points he needed to confirm another World Challenge championship on the season with the combined GT title.Sunday’s race saw Vilander once again fight to fourth at the finish, leaving him just eight points shy of claiming the sprint GT championship.

“I said on the radio after the race, ‘Guys, we won four championships, let’s be happy,’” Vilander said. “It’s been a great year overall.”

“We had a bad start – the (lap one) incident caused a bit of a problem,” said team owner Remo Ferri. “We didn’t qualify well, and I think that’s the key. But we still won four championships. We had a great year, a great team, great car, great driver, it’s a great sport for everybody. We put a lot of effort into this, a lot of work with long hours, and a lot of money, but in the end, it’s great to win championships.”

Altogether, R.Ferri Motorsport won 4 major championships in the 2018 World Challenge season.

R.Ferri Motorsport Claims SprintX Championship in Utah

R.Ferriwinners2 (002)

Salt Lake City, Utah. (12 August 2018) – R.Ferri Motorsport claimed the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge SprintX championship crown at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Pirelli World Challenge competition.  Toni Vilander and Miguel Molina completed their championship push at the half-way mark of Sunday’s competition in the Pro-Pro category to claim the crown.

Ferrari factory pilot Toni Vilander led the charge for R. Ferri Motorsport on the first day of competition, and while he started in the third position, he did not stay there long, claiming the lead before turning the car over to fellow factory driver, Miguel Molina who cruised to the win.  It was a similar story in race 2 where Miguel Molina was able to claim the lead prior to handing over the car back to Toni Vilander who took the checkered flag to win the championship by 26 points in a season that saw six victories and two second place finishes in a ten race championship.

This Sprint X Championship is the first for the team led by Team Owner Remo Ferri.

GP of Texas GT-X Rd.2

Vilander, Molina Take R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari To COTA Sweep With Sunday GT SprintX Pro-Pro Victory in Round 2 EventSegal/Lu Ferrari Wins Pro-Am, Bacarella/Fuentes Ferrari Take Am-Am Class

Austin, Texas – The Ferrari brand swept all three Pirelli World Challenge GT SprintX classes Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in the Grand Prix of Texas led by Toni Vilander and Miguel Molina co-driving the No. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 488 GT3 for the second round GT SprintX race.

Vilander, the past LeMans champion from Finland, and Molina, the factory Ferrari driver from Spain, drove to another impressive win Sunday in the 60-minute, two-driver feature by defeating the No. 80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 pair of Mike Skeen and Scott Heckert by 2.521-seconds in the 28-lap Round 2 contest in the Pro-Pro category.

Another Ferrari victory came in the GT SprintX Pro-Am class with Jeff Segal of Miami, Fla., and Wei Lu of Vancouver, B.C., Canada co-driving the No. 31 Ferrari of Vancouver/TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 over the No. 3 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 duo of Rodrigo Baptista of Brazil and Maxine Soulet of Belgium.

And the Am-Am class victory went to former GTA champion Martin Fuentes of Mexico City, Mex., and Caesar Bacarella of Miami, Fla., in the No. 07 Squadra Corse Garage Italia/Hublot Ferrari 488 GT3.

“I found a good pace at the beginning,” said Molina, who began the one-hour event for R. Ferri Motorsport Sunday. “I overtook the white Ferrari in the last corner early. Things were a bit easier after that when I started to find my own rhythm and pace. After that I tried to just increase the gap as much as possible to make Toni (Vilander’s) job easier in the car. Today, we struggled a little bit more than we did yesterday, but what matters is that we scored our second consecutive win. We are really happy with everything and we’re doing a good job together, especially since this was my first race with Toni and the team. I think there’s no better way to start the season or a championship than this weekend.”

“I think overall what mixes up the field a little bit is that we have a limited amount of tires,” said Vilander. “Some cars in the field had sticky tires, some had used tires and some had qualifying tires. We did a later stop – everything worked out to plan. I had the gap but the Mercedes behind me was closing quite aggressively. I was building up the tire pressures and temperatures because I thought it would be a difficult race. So, I still kept pushing and the car started feeling better and better each lap. I saw behind me that they were going into some corners side-by-side. There were cars that we were lapping in traffic and I knew that was the key moment. I think that was the crucial moment. What’s funny that you might not see out there is that every session, we had a very different setup from yesterday’s race.”

The Pirelli World Challenge GT SprintX Rounds 3 and 4 are on the SprintX schedule at VIRginia International Raceway in Danville, Va., on April 27-29. The next PWC GT Sprint event will be a GT/GTS event in the streets of Long Beach, Calif., as part of the 44th Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 13-15.

AUSTIN, Tex. – Results from Sunday’s 60-minute GT SprintX Round 2 event in the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Texas at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). Results are provisional until posted Final.

R. Ferri Motorsport 5

March 13, 2017 (Englewood Cliffs, N.J.) – Alex Riberas scored the first podium finish for the Ferrari 488 GT3 in the Pirelli World Challenge championship Sunday in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Starting from pole position in the no. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 488 GT3 Riberas fell to third position at the start but remained in a hotly-contested battle for the podium throughout the 50-minute race, setting the race’s fastest lap in the process. While Riberas finished in third position, Daniel Mancinelli finished in sixth position in the no. 31 TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3.

Mancinelli nearly scored a podium in the first race of the weekend, held Saturday morning, after he secured pole position. However, an incident on the final lap of the race meant he would finish in 14th position while Riberas, who finished in sixth position, set the fastest lap of that race as well which put him on pole position for Sunday’s race.

The next PWC race will be April 7-9 at the Grand Prix of Long Beach in Long Beach, California. The broadcast of the PWC races from St. Petersburg will be shown on Saturday, March 18 at 2:00 PM ET on CBS Sports.

R.Ferri Motorsport Finished Successful Season With 2nd Place in Championship

_DSC6301

SALINAS, Calif. – Ferrari had a 1-2 finish in GT at the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Monterey at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca but after a spirited race by #61 Olivier Beretta, a podium finish and perhaps the championship was not in the cards. Johnny O’Connell of Flowery Branch, Ga. clinched the title in a dramatic race.

With O’Connell and Olivier Beretta of Monte Carlo, Monaco, separated by just a handful of points all eyes were on the Championship contenders as the lights went off on the standing start. It was Alessandro Balzan, however, getting a jump from the outside of the front row into the Andretti Hairpin in the No. 29 NGT Motorsport MOMO Ferrari 458 GT3 Italia.

O’Connell took advantage of the clean start by rocketing to second place on the opening lap from his fifth grid position. Pole sitter Alessandro PierGuidi, of Tortona, Italy, in the No. 30 NGT Motorsport MOMO Ferrari 458 GT3 Italia found himself third after the opening lap.

Rival Beretta, in the No. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari of Ontario/Toronto/Alberta Ferrari 458 GT3 Italia, also made moves on the opening lap, charging from 12th on the grid to eighth, earning him the Optima Batteries Best Standing Start Award.

By lap three, Beretta was on the move, and was already in sixth position having passed Kevin Estre of Lochau, Austria, in the K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 and Mike Skeen, of Charlotte, N.C., in the CRP Racing DeVilbiss/Hawk Performance Audi R8 LMS Ultra.

Five laps later, Beretta was in the top five, underscoring the fact he needed to score more points than O’Connell in the race to take the Championship.

On lap 16, Beretta passed Windermere, Fla.’s Ryan Dalziel in the No. 31 EFFORT racing World PMO Porsche 911 GT3R to move into fourth place.

2345345

By lap 25, Beretta had reeled in O’Connell and attacked going into the Andretti Hairpin in a bid for third place. Corners later, the two Championship protagonists made contact in the Corkscrew. Beretta was able to continue and took third place but O’Connell was momentarily stopped, dropping him to 14th and provisionally handing the Championship to the Ferrari pilot.

While O’Connell mounted his rebound effort, Beretta had to serve a drive-through penalty for the contact in lap 25. Beretta was able to emerge from the penalty into seventh place, well in front of O’Connell who had only mustered up to 12th position.

However, five minutes from the end, on the last turn, Beretta made contact with the Acura of Peter Cunningham and was forced to pull out., rendering the Ferrari undriveable and forcing him off course. The DNF for the Beretta and the Ferrari meant O’Connell and Cadillac Racing had captured four consecutive Pirelli World Challenge Championships.

Balzan would stand atop the round 20 GT podium joined by teammate PierGuidi in second and Dalziel, in third.

A difficult end to a fantastic season for the R.Ferri Motorsport Racing with Ferrari team as we finished 2nd overall GT.  A great effort from our team all season long, we’re already looking forward to next year. Forza Ferrari.
